eScholaris was born from a simple belief: traditional education doesn’t work for everyone—and that’s not a failure of the student.
Some students thrive with flexibility. Working adults need schedules that fit their lives. Families want accredited options that align with their values. Students who struggled in traditional settings often excel when given the right environment and support.
That’s why we created eScholaris: a fully online, self-paced high school program that combines rigorous academics with the flexibility modern students need. Built on over 25 years of educational expertise and backed by national accreditation through Proximity Learning, we’re proving that quality and flexibility aren’t mutually exclusive.
Our campus is wherever you are. Our classroom is open whenever you’re ready. And our commitment is to see you succeed.
In Guatemala, there’s a saying that education doesn’t just open doors—it gives you wings.
Eduardo Montano and Julio Zelaya grew up believing this. As children in a country where quality education was often a privilege reserved for the few, they watched airplanes cross the sky and wondered: What if education could do the same thing? What if it could carry people to horizons they never thought possible?
That question never left them.
They spent their lives preparing for an answer—Eduardo building innovative schools that became the first in Central America to embrace technology, robotics, and eventually Artificial Intelligence; Julio traveling the world as an educator and entrepreneur, working with organizations across the Americas, always learning, always asking how to reach more people.
Together, they launched Escolaris in Guatemala—an online school designed to prove that quality education and flexibility weren’t mutually exclusive. Over two decades, they graduated thousands of students. But the question remained: How do we give wings to more people?
Through Entrepreneurs’ Organization, Eduardo and Julio met Evan Erdberg.
Evan had spent fifteen years solving a different piece of the same puzzle. From Austin, Texas, he had built Proximity Learning into a nationwide solution for teacher shortages, streaming certified educators into classrooms that needed them most. He had seen firsthand what happens when students are denied access to quality instruction—and what becomes possible when that barrier is removed.
The three discovered quickly that they shared more than business interests. They shared a belief: Geography should never determine destiny.
An alliance formed. The vision that began in Guatemala would now extend to the United States, powered by Proximity Learning’s national accreditation and infrastructure. But something was still missing—a perspective they hadn’t yet considered.
While pursuing his doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania, Julio met Jinsil Kim.
Jinsil had built her own educational empire—a network of tutoring centers helping students reach top universities. But her story began somewhere else: as a young woman who had immigrated from South Korea, navigating a country where the language, the culture, the systems were all unfamiliar.
Over conversations in Philadelphia and New York, Julio, Eduardo, and Jinsil discovered they had all lived a version of the same experience. The disorientation of arriving somewhere new. The vulnerability of not speaking the dominant language fluently. The fear of being judged, of falling behind, of not belonging.
And then came the question that changed everything:
What about the millions of people arriving in the United States from Latin America right now? The ones who want to finish their education but feel lost in an unfamiliar system? The ones working two jobs and raising families, who need flexibility but also need to feel safe—safe to learn at their own pace, safe to make mistakes, safe to succeed in their own language while building skills in English?
eScholaris was born from that question.
A world where geography, schedule, or circumstance never limits a student's potential. We envision an educational ecosystem where every learner has access to world-class instruction, regardless of ZIP code. Where working parents can finish their diplomas without sacrificing their jobs. Where homeschool families find accredited partners who share their commitment to excellence. Where students who felt left behind discover they were simply waiting for the right opportunity.
To empower every student to build their future through accessible, accredited, and competency-based education that meets them where they are. We go beyond content delivery. Our mission is to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, and adaptable individuals prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. We believe education should transform—not just inform.
Every student deserves access to quality education. We tear down barriers geographic, economic, and temporal to make that possible.
Flexibility doesn't mean easy. Our standards are rigorous, our expectations high, and our support unwavering.
Every course, every tool, every policy is designed with one question in mind: Does this help our students succeed?
Education evolves, and so do we. We continuously update our curriculum, technology, and methods to serve students better.
We're transparent about our accreditation, our methods, and our outcomes. Trust is earned through honesty.
eScholaris is the U.S. extension of a pioneering educational model that has transformed learning for over two decades.
Our parent organization was founded in 1998 and became the first ISO 9001:2000 certified school in Central America. Since then, we’ve graduated over 6,000 students, developed more than 700 original courses, and earned recognition as educational innovators—from implementing robotics programs in 2005 to becoming an AI-powered learning platform in 2019.
This heritage means you’re not experimenting with an untested concept. You’re joining a proven educational community with a track record of student success.
